The Preston Caribbean Carnival on the 7th June 2020 can only happen and remain free to the people of Preston with funding. For this reason we would like to say a big thank-you to Arts Council England who have given the green light to our 2020 bid application. This is big news for the Preston Carnival and means that we can shake our tail feathers once again and give the people of Preston a cultural treat.
2020 Preston Caribbean Carnival is On!
The 46th Preston Caribbean Carnival is on brightening up the City of Preston on the 7th June 2020.
Preston Carnival Committee members received the exciting news that their application to the Arts Council England for funding had been given the go ahead and so they are now busy organising the biggest and most colourful party Preston will see this year. Without funding, the carnival could not have gone ahead but thanks to the Arts Council England, Awards For All and sponsors Uclan, Community Gateway and McDade Roberts Accountants, Preston is once again allowed to prove how good we are at getting into the carnival spirit.
2020 will be the 46th Caribbean Carnival in Preston and plans include a vibrant, colourful procession through the City centre streets followed by a Caribbean themed family fun day on Moor Park. It’s all happening on Sunday 7th June 2020 from 12 noon.
Local and visiting dance troupes will display traditional large and small piece carnival costumes and dance their way from Moor Park down Deepdale Road, towards the city centre, left in to Meadow Street, St Paul’s Road, Sedgewick Street and return to the park via North Road and the Garstang Road entrance. The event will include live performances from Caribbean Latin band – July Julay, Socaartists – Lutennants, our local One Voice Community Choir and steelpan orchestra Phase One along with other acts. Caribbean and other food stalls, bar facility and lots of children’s activities, including creative making sessions and inflatables.
Celebrations start the day before the event with the “One Park Ten Sounds” Music Festival, a much needed new fundraising event to help raise funds and keep Carnival on De Road. Ten well known & popular UK sound systems including ‘Love Express’, ‘Iration Steppas’ ‘Qualitex’ & Gladdy Wax will visit Moor Park from 12noon on Saturday the 6th June so it will extend the carnival to be a weekend long festival again this year.
The Preston Caribbean Carnival is the biggest party Preston will see in 2020 and expects 15,000 visitors to join in the fun. Celebrating the flamboyant, creative Caribbean culture within our city, it is a great day out for all the family.
